The quaint and tranquil village of Burley may look like it is the epitome of quintessential rural living, but its serene scenery has also witnessed scandalous goings on in its time!
Smugglers and highwaymen were once the bread and butter for the infamous Queens Head pub during the 17th Century. During renovations work, a hidden cellar was discovered under the bar floor, brimming with loot including pistols, bottles and coins.
The famous white witch Sybil Leek was also a Burley resident in the 1950’s, but her long black cloak, pet jackdaw - Mr Hotfoot, and eccentric ways led to so much attention
that she fled to America.
Rest assured that todays locals are much more friendly, making it a great place to enjoy the New Forest experience! Wagon rides through leafy lanes and horse or cycle rides through
the forest are a great way to explore the area whilst a collection of quirky shops, proper pubs and indulgent tea rooms really let you unwind!
